Work placement or study abroad
Work placement or study abroad
You can choose to spend a year between your second and third year of study at one of our partner universities abroad or on a 12-month work placement in the UK or overseas.
Study abroad
Choose to study abroad at one of our partner universities in Europe through the Erasmus exchange scheme. We currently have partners in Denmark, Finland, France, Holland, Norway, Spain and Sweden.
Work placement
Gain valuable industry experience with a 12-month work placement in a UK or Overseas business. You'll receive support from the Business School's dedicated Placement Officer and the University's Careers Service to help you find a placement that matches your skills and interests.
We have recently placed students in companies including: IBM, Disney, Procter & Gamble, Nissan, Marks & Spencer, Unilever, Accenture, Cummins, GSK and Microsoft.
This year's placement students are undertaking projects such as:
- assisting with the planning and coordination of fashion and beauty events eg London Fashion Week at L'Oreal
- managing the sales orders for a major supermarket chain at P&G
- working on a change management project at Unilever
- training to be a Retail Manager and looking after a section of the shop floor at John Lewis
- providing business and sales support to a National Account Manager at Warner Bros

Skills development
We place a strong emphasis on helping you develop practical skills for your future career. You'll be prepared for a wide range of management careers in sectors which might include consultancy, media, manufacturing, retail, public services, finance or human resources.
Practical business skills
Case-study lead teaching helps you understand how real businesses apply knowledge and expertise to tackle real-world challenges.
A work placement will give you the opportunity to put your learning into practice and gain a wealth of business experience.
Research skills
You will develop your skills in research methodology and presentation and develop in-depth knowledge of a particular area of business through completing a dissertation or undertaking a consultancy project.
The dissertation allows you to explore a business-related issue that interests you, and the consultancy project involves working with a business client, researching their organisation and presenting recommendations to improve their business.
