Distance learning courses

Distance learning programs are growing in popularity. It's like studying abroad - without moving abroad!

Many students find that the pressures of work, family commitments or other pressures mean it is impossible to go overseas for an international education. But with distance learning, often referred to as online learning, you can still earn a degree from an internationally recognised university. As long as you have the discipline and self-motivation to succeed, it is possible to get just as good an education as your on-campus colleagues.

The benefits of taking a distance learning course

Undergraduate and postgraduate degrees that you can study from home or your computer:

  • Learning materials are sent to you, or can be accessed online on your own devices - your campus is wherever you want it to be.
  • You choose your own timetable, so your studies can fit around your lifestyle. Study while you travel, or mix study and work.
  • You earn a degree of the same quality as an on-campus course from a respected university abroad without having to relocate - no visa applications, expensive travel or accommodation fees.
  • Graduation ceremonies that you can attend. Lots of distance learning providers offer the chance to attend a graduation ceremony on-campus, allowing you to meet your tutors and fellow students.
  • Many distance learning providers offer the chance for one-to-one sessions with tutors.

How does online learning work?

Distance or online learning allows you to choose from a vast range of higher education courses. No matter what you want to study, you will find a distance learning option.

All levels of study can be found, be it short courses, diploma qualifications, bachelors degrees or masters degrees. You can even study an MBA by distance or online learning!

Entry requirements

Courses will have different minimum entry requirements depending upon provider and the level of the course. Expect similar entry requirements to on-campus studies for bachelors and masters degrees.

Language requirements

Bachelors and masters degrees are likely to require you to meet a minimum standard of the language that your chosen course is taught in. This is to ensure that you have the best chance of completing your studies successfully. We advise you to check language requirements with your chosen provider.

IT skills

If you want to study by online learning, a certain amount of computers skills will be required, such as being able to edit documents and using email and an internet browser.

Tuition fees

Tuition fees are often cheaper than the equivalent on-campus course fees, especially as an international student. Also consider the growing range of free MOOC (massive open online course) courses, which are offered by a wide range of top institutions from around the world.
