The campus was envisioned by the legendary landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted and was designated as an arboretum in 2003, making it a beautiful place for students and faculty.


UMaine hosts a student body of 11,571 undergraduate and graduate students.

UMaine offers more than 100 degree programs, catering to a wide range of academic interests. Students have the opportunity to earn graduate certificates, master’s, doctoral, or professional science master’s degrees across various disciplines. Some of the academic highlights include a robust research environment, one of the nation’s oldest honors programs, and a marine sciences research facility located in Walpole.

Campus Life:

The campus life at UMaine is rich and engaging with more than 200 student clubs and organizations, providing ample opportunities for students to pursue their interests and engage with the community. UMaine also boasts Maine’s only NCAA Division I athletics program, with 90 individual and team conference championships in the last 10 years. Additionally, there are 15 miles of trails on campus for running, biking, and cross-country skiing. Community engagement is encouraged through volunteerism and internships, helping students to address issues both locally and globally. Students also have access to Maine Bound recreational activities, enhancing their outdoor experience in Maine.
