About Physics at Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, University of Leeds

Physics is the most fundamental of all sciences. It observes and explores the physical laws and principles that govern the nature of the universe. Physics research underpins many technological advances, from cancer treatments to electronic devices. It is a stimulating and inspiring discipline.

On this course, you’ll develop a thorough knowledge of core physics, from thermodynamics to quantum physics. You’ll also have several chances to get involved in real research, exploring more advanced topics that relate to our research strengths – from astrophysics to nanoscale and biophysics.

Course highlights

  • Our courses are shaped by our world-leading research in areas such as soft matter physics, astrophysics, molecular physics and theoretical physics.

  • For your final year project, you’ll work as part of an internationally recognised research team and get involved in real research.

  • During your project work you will access specialist facilities and laboratories.

  • You will have the opportunity to apply for a funded summer research placement at the end of year two, which will provide eight weeks’ paid employment actively pursuing research in physics.
