PhD in History
Year: 2018/19
Description:
3 years full-time or 5 to 7 years part-time. 100,000 word dissertation maximum.
You undertake research under the guidance of one or two supervisors and are examined exclusively by thesis. Your research should contain your own analysis and conclusions based on your personal study of primary and secondary source materials.

Our expertise ranges from Britain and Europe to Africa, the Caribbean, East Asia, India, North America, and Russia; from political, social and cultural to religious, military and international history; from the middle ages to the 'War on Terror'. We have an excellent record of thesis completion and a tradition of close and involved personal supervision (you usually meet your supervisor every month).
Funding
We offer several School of History scholarships and AHRC Doctoral Scholarships.
We also offer opportunities for paid employment and financial assistance toward research trips or conference attendance.
