Leeds is a city in northern England with a population of just over half a million residents. Leeds has been an important centre for trade in England, and a hub of multiple industries over the decades including wool, printing, engineering and iron foundries.

University of Leeds

Founded in 1904, the University of Leeds is a prestigious large-scale university with nearly 33,000 enrolled students of whom about 11,000 are international students. Although it was originally founded with a focus on scientific subjects, the University of Leeds later expanded its curriculum to offer degrees in subjects such as Literature and History.

With a sizable international student community, you will always be comfortable and have access to international student support services at the University of Leeds. The University of Leeds is also the only university in Leeds to be a member of the Russell Group, a prestigious group of 24 universities in the United Kingdom with a shared focus on research and a reputation for academic achievement.

The university has a single campus located near the Leeds city centre, making it a unique urban university with a proper campus, unlike most other urban universities which have buildings spread across the city. The University of Leeds also offers a UK-Chinese Engineering course programme in partnership with Southwest Jiaotong University in Chengdu, China.

Leeds Art University

Tuition and Living Costs in Leeds

Average undergraduate tuition costs for international students in top-ranked Leeds universities can vary between 15,000-30,000 US Dollars per year. Tuition fees are higher for Dentistry and Medical courses at about 38,000-40,000 US Dollars per year. Meanwhile, postgraduate tuition fees depend on the course selected, and usually range between 15,000 and 35,000 US Dollars.

As for living expenses, the University of Leeds estimates that international students will require between 700 and 900 US Dollars monthly. This figure includes 500-600 USD monthly for shared accommodation, 150-180 USD for food expenses, 50-60 USD for utilities, and 80-100 USD monthly for miscellaneous expenses. Although living costs in Leeds are not extremely affordable, it will still cost international students only about half as much as living costs in major cities such as London.
