The Welsh School of Architecture at Cardiff University has been ranked 37th in the world by the prestigious QS World University Rankings 2019.
The QS World University Rankings identify the world’s strongest universities in 48 individual subject areas every year. We are proud to have consistently ranked within the top 50 university departments for architecture and the built environment worldwide for the past five years.
At the Welsh School of Architecture, we have been delivering specialist master’s programmes and research degrees for more than thirty years, and architectural education for almost 100 years.
We know that architects and built environment professionals play a key role in shaping the future of our world and the way we live. Our passion is to help create a built environment that enhances people’s lives, without destroying the planet for future generations – through our own practice, our research, and the knowledge we pass on in our teaching.
The architectural profession is ever-changing to address current and future challenges. We believe that specialist study and research are needed for professionals to keep up with the cutting edge of the subject and inform the designs that make the world a better place.
Our programmes reflect the current and future needs of the profession and our values as educators and practitioners. We are known internationally for the quality of our teaching and research and for our core beliefs in sustainability and environmental design.
Our portfolio of master’s courses in particular addresses gaps in professional knowledge and focuses on creating sustainable environments. We attract students across the world to our postgraduate courses that reflect our research interests and expertise in sustainability, conservation, urban design, and energy studies. These courses are designed to be of value both to architectural students as well as many other professions involved in designing, developing and evaluating the built environment.
We offer master’s degrees in architectural design, urban design, and design administration. We also offer specialist courses in environmental design, sustainable building conservation, and sustainable mega buildings. Many of our programmes are available on a full or part-time study basis, and several are available via distance learning.
Our graduates leave us with an inquiring attitude and the ability to tackle complex problems in the built environment, equipped with a holistic approach to the subject, honed by lively discussion and critical thinking.
