About Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies at Cardiff University

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a talking treatment tool used by mental health professionals that has been proven to help people manage a range of mental health conditions, such as anxiety and depression.

This part-time course is intended for professionals working in mental health, such as mental health nurses, occupational therapists, psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, and social workers, However, the BABCP offers another route called the Knowledge and Skills Assessment (KSA) which practitioners with sufficient levels of experience and knowledge may be able to attain the equivalent level of training.

The syllabus is based on the Roth & Pilling competency framework for CBT with anxiety disorders and depression, and the course focuses on CBT with adults, although we also welcome practitioners working with children and older adults.

This course has two exit qualifications. For further details, please visit our website:

What students think about Cardiff University

    Zoe, Biosciences, UK, 2021

Testimonial from Zoe, Biosciences, UK, 2021, student at Cardiff University

Cardiff really is surrounded by some scenic gems. It’s in the middle of everything and is so well connected with transport links that you can get pretty much everywhere and anywhere you want.

Testimonial from Ellie, Journalism, UK, 2020, student at Cardiff University

I chose Cardiff because it felt right. It was the first open day I attended and even on that first visit I just really liked the feel of the city, with it already feeling like home.

People are super friendly, and the city is affordable for students . . . There are also plenty of coffee shops and restaurants that you can hang out with your friends.
