About Engineering Physics, BSc (Hons) - at Heriot-Watt University

Our Engineering Physics degree looks at engineering applications of physics in areas such as Microelectronics, Optics and Electromagnetism. It will help you develop a creative approach to solving engineering-related problems.

The course includes practical, theoretical and skill-based studies in Materials Science, Electronics, and Computer Modelling. This Engineering Physics degree will give you the knowledge and skills required by both the industry and service sectors. You'll also be well prepared for a career in research.

Entry requirements

Year 1

  • Highers AAAB or ABBBB with A in Maths or Physics
  • A-Levels BBB to include Physics and Maths
  • Scottish Baccalaureate Pass with BC in Adv. Higher Maths and Physics
  • Int. Baccalaureate 29 points to include Higher Level Mathematics and Physics
  • HNC B in graded unit. Relevant HNC - please contact Admissions Tutor to discuss further
  • Additional information Entry normally to include Physics and Mathematics Highers or A-Levels at A or B and for Chemical Physics B in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry

Year 2

  • Advanced Highers BB in Maths and Physics plus Highers
  • A-Levels AAB with AA in Maths and Physics
  • Scottish Baccalaureate Distinction with BB in Adv. Higher Mathematics and Physics

  • A range of alternative qualifications may be accepted including good qualifications in non-scientific subjects. We will also consider mature applicants with appropriate work experience. Advanced qualifications should be in Physics and Mathematics.
