About Chemical Engineering at Heriot-Watt University

The BEng programme forms the core for our advanced MEng programmes allowing us to offer flexibility to students. Programmes share the same first two Levels, with the more chemistry oriented Pharmaceutical Chemistry MEng programme specialising in chemistry topics in Level 3. Our programmes aim to provide students with the sound understanding of chemical engineering fundamentals needed to become professional Chartered Engineers. In addition to a grounding in science, mathematics and engineering, our students acquire practical abilities that are highly sought after by industry.

Accreditation

Accredited by the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as an Incorporated Engineer and partially meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer.

Year 1

  • Highers AAAB
  • A-Levels BBC
  • Scottish Baccalaureate Pass with BC in Advanced Higher Mathematics and Chemistry
  • Int. Baccalaureate 29 points to include Higher Level Mathematics and Chemistry
  • HNC B In graded unit. Additional HNC profile requirement - Please contact Admissions Tutor to discuss further
  • Additional information Qualifications must include Mathematics and Chemistry. Physics is strongly advised at least at Standard Grade / National 5, GCSE, or equivalent. Applicants may be admitted with a range of alternative qualifications.

Year 2

  • Advanced Highers AB in Mathematics and Chemistry
  • A-Levels AAB
  • Scottish Baccalaureate Distinction with AB in Adv. Higher Mathematics and Chemistry
