Study Biotechnology Degrees

Biotechnology looks at the coming together of natural sciences and engineering sciences in order to use biological systems and living organisms to create products that meet a certain need. There are five main areas of biotechnology: animal, environmental, human, industrial and plant. You might choose to study a degree that focuses on one of these areas specifically, or a degree that covers them all throughout your studies.

Graduates of a degree in biotechnology will have a range of career options available to them. These include microbiologist, geneticist, ecological consultant, research analyst, and laboratory technician, among others.

Your degree will be delivered through a mixture of modes. These will include lectures and seminars, as well as practical laboratory based sessions. Depending on your course, you may also have the opportunity to take part in a work placement. Modules you study could include:

  • Genetics
  • Cells to Organisms
  • Molecular Biotechnology
  • Neuroscience
  • Population and Evolution
  • Behavioural Ecology
