Masters in the Netherlands

In the Netherlands, postgraduate degrees are offered by various institutions. These include research oriented universities, which focus on theory and scientific research, universities of applied sciences, which emphasise practical application of arts and sciences, and specialised business schools, which offer advanced management and business courses. These institutions deliver a range of masters degrees such as Master of Science (MSc), Master of Arts (MA), Master of Research (MRes), and Master of Business Administration (MBA), among others.

Duration

Postgraduate degrees in the Netherlands typically require one to two years of full-time study. Research degrees sometimes take slightly longer, but this will depend on the specific course.

Language of Teaching

The country is known for its high prevalence of English-taught programs at the postgraduate level, making it an attractive destination for international students.

How to Apply for a Masters Degree in the Netherlands

International students apply directly to the institution of their choice, often through an online system provided by the university. Required application documents generally include a personal statement, CV, academic transcripts, proof of English proficiency (IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge), and sometimes specific entrance exams like the GMAT.

The language requirements for postgraduate programs may be higher compared to undergraduate programs. As well as this, applicants might have to demonstrate a relevant academic background, with some programs requiring specific undergraduate degrees.

Postgraduate Tuition Fees for International Students

Tuition fees for international students vary for masters in the Netherlands, but are generally higher than fees for EU/EEA students. While some scholarships are available to international students, they can be competitive. This is something to be aware of when considering where you will study.
