In figures released earlier this month, Robert Gordon University is once again the top university in the UK for graduate employment according to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA).
So how is this possible? There are a combination of factors which contribute to the long standing graduate employment record of RGU, which regularly sits at number one (of the UKs 120 universities) at the top leagues table for graduate success. One of the main reasons is the location of RGU in Aberdeen, the energy capital of Europe. Aberdeen is home to the second largest concentration of multinational companies outside London, making it a thriving commercial capital which was recently reported by the BBC as the best placed city in the UK for economic growth.
As a university, RGU works closely with many of these locally based, global organisations to find what knowledge and skills they are looking for in a professional working in their commercial areas of expertise. With this insight RGU then includes in its syllabus this desired technical understanding and personal development proficiency recruiting companies seek, using techniques such as off campus internships and placements, case studies, commercial site visits, competitions and symposium with employers and relevant professional bodies to do this. It’s the combination of locally based connections and commercially relevant course content which sees over 96% of Robert Gordon University students walk in to graduate level positions, with impressive salaries, within six months of leaving the institution.
However, it is not all just hard work, commercial networking and studying for RGU students. The International Student Barometer, conducted by i-Graduate, also shows that students who chose Robert Gordon University are the most satisfied with the level of personal support they receive of any international students studying at a participating Scottish university. Furthermore, 91% of all international students would recommend to their friends and family to study at RGU; an indication of the overall satisfaction with the student experience of living, learning and loving life at the university.
Further exciting news for students going to RGU is that not only has it been announced as the UK’s Top Modern University 2012 by The Sunday Times and The Guardian newspapers; in 2013 it will see a £170 million development of the Garthdee Campus creating facilities amongst the most modern of any Schools of Computing, Engineering and Pharmacy & Life Sciences in Europe. The new Schools will sit alongside the existing Faculty of Health and Social Care, School of Architecture and Art and Aberdeen Business School already situated at the beautiful riverside campus.
As a modern university, RGU focuses on the future rather than depending on history like many UK universities do.
