About Legal Practice, PG Dip - at Robert Gordon University
The Diploma in Legal Practice offered at The Robert Gordon University is the first such course to be accredited by the Law Society of Scotland.
After completion of an LLB Degree from a Scottish university, or the professional examinations of the Law Society of Scotland, those who intend to become solicitors in Scotland are required to undertake the Diploma in Legal Practice.
What you will studyThis Diploma in Legal Practice course is a
one year postgraduate course (of 26 weeks duration). The course modules are as follows:
- Conveyancing
- Private Client
- Financial Services and Accountancy
- Professional Ethics
- Criminal Court Practice
- Civil Court Practice
- Practice Management
Plus an option of either:
- Company and Commercial
- Public Administration

Entry requirementsTo gain admission to the Diploma course entrants require to obtain passes in certain "core" subjects (prerequisite professional subjects) in their LLB Degree from a Scottish university.
Alternatively you will have undertaken a pre Diploma training contract and completed the Law Society of Scotland's professional qualifying examinations.
Fees and bursariesUK/EU Students- New students: entire course £5050 for academic year 2010/11
International Students- New students: entire course £5050 for academic year 2010/11

How to applyTo apply for entry to the Diploma in Legal Practice in 2010-2011 you must complete the application form specific to the Diploma. Applications made on the standard Robert Gordon University postgraduate application form will not be considered.
Application forms for the Diploma in Legal Practice should be obtained from, and submitted to, the University from which you obtained or will obtain your LLB. This is the case even though you wish to study for the Diploma at the Robert Gordon University.
If you are currently engaged on a pre-Diploma Training Contract and sitting the professional qualifying exams through the Law Society of Scotland you should apply direct to your first choice Diploma provider.
If you:-
- Will graduate LLB from the Robert Gordon University in 2010, or earlier; or
- Are engaged on a pre-Diploma Training Contract; or
- Are currently enrolled as an undergraduate on the LLB at the Robert Gordon University,
and wish to apply for a place on the Diploma in Legal practice
