Optimize diagnosis and treatment

Healthcare is rapidly changing and gaining complexity. The use of complex technology in healthcare is spreading. Healthcare today calls for professionals with a solid scientific, medical and engineering background combined. Such multidisciplinary experts will be better equipped to treat their patients.

In our Master's programme Technical Medicine, you can become one of these experts. The programme integrates the medical and technical domains. In this programme, you will become a professional with a unique perspective and the ability to develop innovative diagnostic and treatment solutions for your patients. As a technical physician you will be the linking pin between medicine and technology. Throughout the programme you will learn how to apply existing technology in innovative ways to optimize diagnosis and treatment of patients.

A full-fledged discipline

The Technical Medicine programme was designed at the University of Twente and was the first of its kind in the world. Since then, Technical Medicine has gained recognition as a new, full-fledged discipline in Dutch healthcare. Its acknowledgement was accelerated by the fact that the competencies belonging to this new group of professionals have been officially recognized by the government and that graduates are qualified to treat patients independently.

Focus on health and technology

At the University of Twente 'health' is a major theme. We work on current issues in healthcare daily and across various disciplines. The main objective is always to contribute to the improvement of healthcare. By inspiring education, international and practically oriented research, an entrepreneurial attitude and collaboration the University of Twente effectively contributes to changes in healthcare.

The education programmes of the University of Twente are well aligned with daily practice in healthcare. Our Biomedical Engineering, Health Sciences and Technical Medicine programmes complement and reinforce each other. Where students of Technical Medicine learn how to treat patients, students of Biomedical Engineering learn to develop new technologies for healthcare.
