Engaging, informative and innovative! Join a future-oriented classroom in a borderless environment in UNNC

University of Nottingham Ningbo China

At the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC), we offer excellent learning and research infrastructure. We are proud of our superb faculty made up of world renowned educators and researchers. Through combining innovative and interactive teaching pedagogies and world class teaching facilities, UNNC will encourage students to think creatively, develop new ideas, and empower you with the necessary skills to become excellent global citizens.

Teaching in a borderless university

The teaching approach at UNNC is shaped and informed by the University of Nottingham UK, with degree programmes taught in English and assessed through the same processes – and to the same standards – as those in the UK. Our emphasis on teaching quality and excellence in all that we do extends to a commitment to providing a British-style learning environment: an environment that is dynamic, engaging, empowering, research informed, internationally oriented, but locally grounded.

Since the pandemic, UNNC has created a number of upgraded “student-centred lecture rooms” that facilitate a blend of online and offline teaching styles. The lecture rooms come with flexible furniture and interactive touchscreens that can be flipped to shift the emphasis from being teacher-centred to a student-centred interactive communication. Thanks to these technologically advanced “flipped classrooms”, students can enjoy an enhanced interactive learning experience regardless of their geographical location.

More recently, UNNC launched the V-ROOM, an interactive laboratory that combines virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies to pilot an immersive and engaging learning environment. Over 600 students participated in creating learning programmes for V-ROOM. Some with zero experience and knowledge were trained to use 3D design software to co-design simulations aimed at language learning, design and architecture, and engineering modules.

May 31st 2022, Times Higher Education (THE) held the ceremony for the THE Asia Awards 2022. UNNC was successfully shortlisted for the “Teaching and Learning Strategy of the Year” award in the THE Asia Awards 2022. Among the eight universities also on the shortlist included Asia’s top universities such as Hong Kong University, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Nanyang Technological University and the National University of Singapore.

The “Teaching and Learning Strategy of the Year” award that UNNC was shortlisted for recognises unique and innovative teaching and learning strategies that enhance both the student and staff experience, and reflect an institution’s core values.

Researching in a future-oriented university

University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) is a fast-growing hub for excellence in research, innovation and knowledge exchange. Driven by our collaboration with the Ningbo Government and industry partners, we provide solutions to local challenges through world-class research and innovation.

Since its establishment in 2004, UNNC has achieved several breakthroughs in research by bringing together the most talented staff and committing itself to transform lives and society. According to the “Best Chinese Universities Ranking” by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, we are among the first for research quality.

UNNC is also proud to acknowledge the recent achievements of 11 members of staff who were selected in the career-long database and 15 members of staff in the single year database according to the 2022 version of “World’s Top 2% Scientists” released by Stanford University, setting a new record in the university’s history. The research from these members of staff covers a variety of capabilities including Information Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Business and Management, Nanoscience, Applied Physics, Material Sciences, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Operations Research.

This list is divided into a career-long database element and a single-year database element. In the field of Information Systems of the career-long database, Professor Patrick Chau and Professor Alain Chong are among the top 50 globally and are the only two scientists from China to be included. In the field of Operations Research, Professor Hing Kai Chan is ranked ninth in China.

UNNC scholars have consistently demonstrated their high academic standards and commitments to world-class research. These global rankings demonstrate the university’s influence across multiple disciplines, show its capacity in integrating its advantageous research resources at home and abroad, and signifies UNNC’s dedication to producing cutting-edge research that changes the world for the better.

Education transforms lives. It is this belief that drives UNNC’s commitment to teaching, learning and researching of the very highest quality, unlocking students’ potential and preparing them to shape the world for the better.
