About Sustainable and Autonomous Systems, MSc - at University of Vaasa

Our Sustainable and Autonomous Systems major offers you the opportunity to develop expertise in areas such as real-time embedded systems, wireless communication, and computer vision, all while creating robotized solutions for industries that align with sustainable development. You'll gain the skills to design systems that monitor and respond to environmental challenges, preparing you to be at the forefront of technological innovation.

Upon completing the program, you'll be equipped to apply advanced technologies in autonomous systems for research and product development. You'll also learn how to create solutions that benefit society and industry, while maintaining a focus on sustainability and engineering ethics. The program empowers you to acquire the latest knowledge in your field, positioning you to take on specialist tasks or pursue further research and development opportunities.

In addition, the programme provides eligibility for doctoral studies in the field of communications engineering, electrical and computing engineering, automation engineering, or in related technical fields.

The major is a joint effort of the University of Vaasa and the University of Oulu, and it will be offered by both universities through various teaching methods. You can build a unique study path combining courses from these two Finnish universities strong in the field of engineering at the same time. Regardless of the city you choose, you will get the full on-campus experience.

The major in Sustainable and Autonomous Systems is a part of the master's programme in Computing Sciences. The duration of studies is 2 years (120 ECTS credits).

Notes about fees for this course

International tuition fees are 10,000 Euros per year. The University also offers generous scholarships for high academic achievement.

You do not have to pay tuition fee if you:

  • are EU/EEA citizen
  • are equivalent to EU/EEA citizen (i.e. citizen of Switzerland)
  • are residing in Finland on a permanent basis and have a continuous residence permit in Finland (P type or A type issued for purposes other than studies)
  • have an EU Blue Card

Entry requirements

  • Having previous studies in subjects like communications engineering, electronics or electrical engineering, computer engineering, automation engineering, or similar will set you up for success.
  • IELTS 6.5 (5.5 in all elements) or an equivalent accepted test/qualification.
