About Psychology (extended degree), BSc (Hons) - at University of Roehampton

Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and its functions. Our Psychology extended degree will help you to learn about yourself and others by studying how the human mind works and how it affects behaviour. One hundred per cent of our Psychology research is rated 'world leading' or 'internationally excellent' for its impact (Research Excellence Framework 2014).

The extended degree programmes include a foundation year, which will provide you with a sound introduction to key elements needed for studying Psychology at degree level. Our extended degree programme will provide you with a thorough and supportive academic preparation for study. The foundation year is carefully designed to build confidence in your abilities, develop essential academic and study skills, and provide you with the subject specific knowledge essential for success.

During this degree, you will develop an excellent foundation for understanding all the core areas of psychology including the biological, social and developmental aspects in a supportive environment. You will also explore how psychology can have a positive impact on people's lives. The course content includes contemporary developments in psychology such as clinical aspects of neuropsychology and criminal psychology.

You will have the opportunity to learn from enthusiastic and dedicated tutors who are also practitioners. This degree is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) and if you graduate with a 2.2 or above, you will automatically gain Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership of BPS. This is the first step required to become a chartered psychologist.

We offer diverse and practical modules such as 'Mind, Body, & Brain' which teaches biological psychology - the study of how the brain, nervous system and other physiological systems interact with mental functions and behaviour. Other modules include 'Personality Psychology and Abnormal Behaviour' which covers different approaches to the studying personality and 'Psychology in the Real World' which addresses topical issues such as criminal profiling and social media use in connection with psychological theory and practice.
