Degree structureYear 1

In Year 1, students undertake four core courses enabling them to learn technical and creative skills; you will be introduced to the craft of film and TV production and develop an understanding of how the industry works. You will produce engaging and entertaining productions across genres, making drama, documentary and TV studio productions that showcase content and technical knowledge and application. Through practical sessions and hands-on experience, you will apply theory to practical production and build your competency in a range of areas, including camera operation, sound, lighting and post-production.

Year 2

Year 2 further develops the craft skills and a deeper knowledge and understanding of the industry. Students study two core courses and also choose two options that might interest them. You will continue to explore practice and theory, including creative, technical and professional practices, and acquire more advanced camera, sound operation, lighting and post-production skills. You may undertake an industrial placement as an optional sandwich year. A placement will give you practical experience by enabling you to work on real-life scenarios and witness the end results. It will also consolidate and expand your first two years of study.

Year 3

Year 3 advances creative, technical and entrepreneurial skills and prepares students for industry. Students undertake two core courses and choose one option to specialise in and to hone their skills to a high level in a specific area of interest. Students are encouraged and supported to take up work placements and internships, to develop a career plan in preparation for graduation. Students make a graduation film in groups that can be a calling card to industry, offering them an advantage in the workplace.
