The Integrated Master’s in Mechatronic Engineering at Keele equips you with the advanced expertise to design intelligent, automated systems that drive progress in robotics and clean energy. In your final year, you will study at master’s level, deepening your technical expertise, expanding your research and innovation experience, and strengthening the leadership skills needed to manage multidisciplinary projects.
Why study Mechatronic Engineering with Integrated Master's at Keele University?
Mechatronics combines mechanical, electrical, electronic, and computer systems into intelligent, automated solutions transforming industries from robotics and autonomous systems to renewable energy and advanced manufacturing. Every project can improve performance, reduce environmental impact, and shape the technologies of tomorrow.
This four-year integrated master’s (MEng) combines undergraduate and postgraduate study in one enhanced degree. You’ll begin with Engineering Fundamentals, building the scientific and technical knowledge to tackle complex problems. Alongside this, Engineering Skills will strengthen your practical ability through labs, workshops, and training in communication and project management, while Engineering Simulation and Mathematics will develop your precision in advanced analysis and modelling. In your fourth year, you will complete master’s-level study, advancing your expertise through specialist modules and a major research project.
From your first year, you will study mechanics, materials, electrical circuits, digital electronics, programming, and introductory automation and robotics. Specialist study builds in areas such as logic systems, microcontrollers, and sensor integration, alongside CAD and control skills. As you progress, you’ll deepen your expertise in system modelling, control theory, embedded programming, and advanced manufacturing systems, applying these to complex engineering challenges.
At master's level, you’ll advance into contemporary topics in mechatronics, combining research-led learning with professional development. You can choose between a Keele-based research project at the cutting edge of robotics, automation, and intelligent systems, or an industry-led project addressing real-world engineering challenges. This additional year sharpens your ability to innovate, integrate disciplines, and lead in a rapidly evolving sector.
Located in the West Midlands, a region renowned for engineering and manufacturing excellence – the programme draws on a strong industrial base. You’ll benefit from industry-informed teaching, networking opportunities, and access to practical experience through local partnerships and initiatives. Professional practice is embedded throughout, preparing you for the workplace with skills in teamwork, ethics and communication. You’ll also grow personally through Professional Challenge Projects based on real industry scenarios – giving you the chance to apply your learning and stand out in a competitive engineering landscape.
