Degrees in France

A wide range of degree courses are available across many institutions in France to study at undergraduate level.

In France, higher education institutions, including universities and grandes écoles, provide a broad array of undergraduate degree programmes. Students can pursue a Licence (equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree) in fields such as Science (Licence de Sciences), Arts (Licence d’Arts), and more. The grandes écoles, renowned institutions that usually focus on engineering, business, and political studies, offer specialised programs.

French is the primary language of teaching, but an increasing number of programs, especially at the postgraduate level and in business schools, are offered in English. These institutions aim to accommodate international students.

How to Apply for a Degree in France

International students normally apply through the “Parcoursup” platform for bachelor’s degrees,  or directly to the universities for other levels. Some schools might use the “Campus France” portal, a government-run platform that helps international students with the application process.

Documents required for application usually include academic records, a letter of motivation, and proof of French language proficiency for programmes taught in French (DELF/DALF). For English-taught programmes, IELTS or TOEFL scores will be required if English is not your first language. Specific admission requirements vary for each institution and program.

Undergraduate Tuition Fees for International Students

Tuition fees in France are lower than in many other countries, thanks to government support. For EU/EEA students the fees are minimal. Non-EU international students can expect to pay higher fees, although they are still relatively affordable, ranging from approximately EUR 2,770 to EUR 3,770 per year for Licence programmes. Some grandes écoles and private institutions have different fee structures, meaning they might charge more.

A range of scholarships and financial aid options are available from the French government, individual institutions, and other organisations, aimed at supporting international students.
