Choosing the right university can be a challenging task for many students, especially those coming from overseas to study in the UK. Here at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), we believe that a degree should equip students with far more than a qualification.
Through a combination of outstanding programmes backed by world-class research, invaluable, real-world experiences and opportunities, cutting-edge facilities and award-winning careers services, UWE Bristol makes sure that students have everything they need to take their career to the next level when they graduate.
The jobs market for graduate students is highly competitive, and the demand for relevant skills in the workplace is ever increasing. As such, graduates must make every effort to ensure that their CV (or résumé) has the edge it needs to stand out post-graduation.
UWE Bristol has formed unique partnerships with leading national and international employers, and students will benefit from expert insight and exciting opportunities from the moment they start their degree.
All students are encouraged to engage in work placements, internships, and enterprise-related activities to put theory into practice and develop the right skills that meet the needs of the industry. In the last two years alone, 6,700 organisations and employers have advertised opportunities with UWE Bristol, resulting in 5,300 UWE Bristol students undertaking placements each year in a range of exciting settings.
Committed to building a university for the 21st century, UWE Bristol continually invest in facilities, from specialist laboratories and imaging suites to libraries and learning-zones.
This month will see the start of a new era for the University as construction begins on a new state-of-the-art Business School. The building will span six floors and encompass two Harvard-style lecture theatres, two showcase mock courtrooms, and provide a new home for both Bristol Business School and Bristol Law School.
Professional organisations including Bristol-based start-ups, local entrepreneurs, and even barristers and accountants will also have a base at the new building, further driving direct contact between students and the real world of employment.
The £50 million building is part of UWE Bristol’s wider investment plan to further improve students’ experiences and develop new facilities on Frenchay Campus. In addition to the new Business School building, exciting developments include refurbished teaching and learning spaces, a central plaza and transport hub, and new student accommodation.
Named the best in the UK in the 2014 National Undergraduate Employability (NUE) Awards, UWE Bristol’s careers services are available to students throughout their degree and after graduation. The University’s comprehensive services include CV guidance, careers workshops, employer events and fairs, and a wealth of online resources.
One of the most popular online resources is GradLink, a specialist careers platform tailored for UK-educated students and graduates looking for work opportunities in Africa, Canada, China, India, and Malaysia. Developed and powered by UWE Bristol, GradLink collaborate with a range of leading organisations including IBM, KPMG, and gsk, allowing users to seek expert advice, browse numerous vacancies and upload their CV.
UWE Bristol was placed 8th by The Telegraph in its list of top universities for getting a job, with 95.5% of graduates in work or further study 6 months after graduating.
