Study a European Studies degree abroad in 2025

Are you interested in the History and Politics of Europe? Studying a degree in European studies will teach you about the formation of Europe, through several wars and redrawing of borders, and how it functions today as the politico-economic European Union.

You will learn about the various cultures and heritage that prosper within the countries of Europe, and how legal, economic and political frameworks have allowed various EU institutions to function towards shared goals.

To study for a degree in European Studies, you should have an interest in subjects such as politics, sociology, history, art & culture and economics, as well as an interest in Europe itself.

By studying in this field, your modules are likely to cover topics such as:

  • European Culture and heritage
  • EU Studies
  • European History
  • European Language
  • Europe's colonial history
  • EU law

Graduates of degrees in European Studies may also learn a European language during their studies, and as such have many transferable skills upon graduation. Students may go on to work in a variety of areas such as:

  • Communications consultants
  • Policy analysts
  • Journalism & Media
  • Marketing

Undergraduate programmes in European Studies are most commonly offered at universities as Bachelors of Science (BSc degree) and Bachelors of Arts (BA degree), which typically take between 3-4 years to complete when studied Full-time.

Entry requirements for undergraduate degrees in European Studies will usually include academic achievement at the level required by your chosen university in related subject areas such as Arts, History or Geography. If applicable, you may also need to provide evidence of your English language proficiency in either TOEFL, IELTS tests.
