Course Overview
The course will cover differences between process safety and occupational safety, case studies of major incidents, legislation, standards and recommended good practice (Seveso, COMAH, ATEX and DSEAR). The organisation's 'Process Safety Model' and references to COMAH MAPP (major accident prevention policy) will be discussed. Hazard management concepts - such as, 'Inherent Safety', 'Hierarchy of Control', ALARP and layers of protection will be introduced.

This course will raise your awareness of process safety and improve the performance of your organisation.

Assessment
A written assignment equivalent to 1500 words outlining the learner's role and responsibilities within process safety at their place of work.
Further Information
You will be required to attend two half-day teaching sessions at the Carmarthen Campus. These days will provide you with a secure foundation for your study. Throughout this module you will be supported by a Tutor. This support can either be face-to-face, via telephone, email or Skype - or a mix of all these. You will be required to complete the module within three months of the induction.
