Course Overview

In recent years words like ethics, sustainability and responsibility have transitioned from theoretical debate to very practical considerations within both small and big business. We are reaching a point where sustainable business practice is becoming a key strategic priority, and organisations have begun to realise that not only do future practices and economic models need to transform in line with the dynamics of social and environmental change, but that actually sustainable thinking makes a business more competitive - as noted in The Economist, - Companies with their eye on their 'triple-bottom-line' outperform their less fastidious peers on the stock market".

Our BA Business and Management programme has sustainable thinking at its core and as a learner you will challenge existing paradigms, interrogate new paradigms and debate business solutions which will prepare you for employment in the rapidly changing twenty 'first century environment. We hope that our graduates will be a part of shaping business thinking in the world.

Our 2016 NSS scores for Carmarthen Business School were our best ever and show that:

As part of your studies you will have the opportunity to undertake an internship, engage in fieldwork and benefit from a range of guest lectures from entrepreneurs and business leaders. We have links with a wide range of organisations, many of whom offer the opportunity for our students to engage in live project work as part of their studies. Our students also have the opportunity to take an International study abroad semester, offered in universities in the USA and Canada.

Outside of your course, UWTSD's Carmarthen Campus provides a stimulating and supportive learning environment where first class learning spaces and high quality resources combine with green lawns, landscaped areas and flexible social spaces.

Assessment

The BA Business and Management programme is assessed by a combination of innovative and more traditional methods which are designed to develop students' understanding, problem solving and creative thinking during their three years of study.

Career Opportunities

The programme boasts a high employability rate for graduating students who are in work within six months of completing the degree. A significant number of graduates also progress to postgraduate studies at this and other universities.

There is a learning support team who run regular workshops and tutorials in basic and advanced skill development. Other equivalent qualifications are accepted and the admissions panel will consider each application on an individual basis. Please note also that our offers are not based solely on your academic achievements; we take into account your full range of skills, experience and attainments when considering your application.

The degree welcomes applicants who have previously studied business for a natural progression. Those who have studied other subject areas will transfer well. Those with work experience, but few formal qualifications, may also join the programme. A-Level and Edexcel awards, as well as a range of other certificates at this level from UK, EU and International bodies are respected.

Grades are important; however, our offers are not solely based on academic results. We are interested in creative people that demonstrate a strong commitment to their chosen subject area and therefore we welcome applications from individuals from a wide range of backgrounds. To assess student suitability for their chosen course we normally arrange interviews for all applicants at which your skills, achievements and life experience will be considered as well as your qualifications.
