This course is designed to prepare students to make a smooth transition into a professional practice, working in an industry-related role or in a freelance capacity. The course aids students in applying their current skills and knowledge to the development of a self-directed project/product such as; a solo exhibition, industry portfolio or published work.
Students will have access to their own studio on campus, as well as mentors who will provide critical and constructive feedback, technical advice and assistance with the design and development of their individual work. This course focuses on building up your employability options, current industry knowledge, ability to realise project goals and establish an ongoing practice. We build upon the skills you attained at Diploma level, and our past graduates have produced targeted folios (to approach industry clients), secured publishing deals, established unique online stores, attended international trade fairs and created substantial bodies of work for exhibition.

Melbourne Polytechnic minimum academic level differs depending on the course. Most certificate and diploma level courses require evidence of completion to studies equivalent to Australian Year 11 or 12, bachelor degree courses require evidence of completion to studies equivalent to Australian Year 12, and master degree courses require evidence of completion to studies AQF (Australian) Bachelor degree or overseas equivalent.
If you do not meet Melbourne Polytechnic’s academic entry-level requirements but have acquired skills or knowledge relevant to your chosen course, you may apply as a mature age student. A mature age student is considered to be over 18 years old, and has been out of full-time education for at least one year.
