In China, undergraduate degrees are commonly offered at universities and other specialised institutions. These programs award bachelor’s degrees such as Bachelor of Science (BSc) and Bachelor of Arts (BA), covering a range of academic fields and subject areas.
Mandarin Chinese is the main language of teaching at most Chinese universities, but the number of programs taught in English is increasing as China becomes more attractive to international students.
International students can apply directly to their selected Chinese university. Some institutions may be part of the Chinese University and College Admission System (CUCAS) application system, which streamlines the admission process. Commonly required documents include academic transcripts, a motivation letter, and a resume or CV.
Language proficiency in either Chinese or English is essential. Accepted tests include HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) for Chinese, and IELTS or TOEFL for English. Academic requirements may include a certain GPA, SAT scores, or a qualifications in relevant subjects.
Tuition fees in China are relatively affordable compared to many Western countries, with international students typically paying between CNY 20,000 and CNY 40,000 per year at public universities. The cost can vary depending on the university. Students from countries with educational agreements may pay discounted rates.
To assist with these costs, a variety of scholarships and financial aids are available. These are provided by universities, local governments, and the Chinese government.
