Do you want to know how and why financial markets have come to be so dominant in the global economy?
As events since 2008 have highlighted, the functioning of the world’s financial markets, often thought of as distant and abstract, has a direct impact on the daily lives of everyone. In recent decades, as these markets have grown exponentially, that impact has deepened. Despite this there is little understanding about how these markets have developed, how they function, the regulatory regime(s) in and through which they operate, their structure, their integration with the ‘non-finance’ economy or their future orientation.
The University of Leicester School of Management in conjunction with the School of Law want to change this and invites students to enrol on their new MA in Global Financial Markets.
By studying this exciting and unique programme, you will learn about the nature, evolution and structure of the markets, how they are regulated and controlled, and to what extent they now operate beyond the reach of the state. Whether you want to work within the markets, with those organisations affected by them, or even against them, this programme will give you the tools to understand them.
You will study a wide range of modules including: Global Financial Market Analysis, Foundations of International Commercial Law; and the History and Evolution of Global Financial Markets. You can then pursue your particular interests through combinations of option modules offered by both the School of Management and the School of Law, and then a student-led dissertation. Sample optional modules available to you include: Investment and Portfolio Analysis; Financial Services Crime; Social Studies of Finance; and Current Issues of Law in International Business.
We recognise that knowledge of financial markets is relevant to a wide range of organisations across public, private and voluntary sectors and so we aim to provide a grounding in legal analysis and writing for non-lawyers as well as a range of management and finance-related skills relevant to a range of professional environments, enabling you to open up your career path.
