The BSc Economics and Finance programme combines the best of two subjects to give you a real competitive edge. The core modules provide you with not only a specialisation in finance but also a strong background in economics. This interdisciplinary path will prepare you for specialist courses such as financial economics and financial econometrics. You will also gain a basic knowledge of accounting which is invaluable for understanding how enterprises work.

Knowledge and skills

When you graduate from BSc Economics and Finance you will:

Modules

  • Year One

    UK degrees are three years long whereas in China they are four, therefore we do accept students with certain qualifications directly into Year Two, which is the start of the main academic programme. Most students, however, enter into Year One, which provides you with a range of interesting modules, language classes and core skills for your degree.

    • Foundations of finance
    • Introduction to managerial accounting.
  • Year Three

    Compulsory modules:

    • Intermediate macroeconomics
    • Corporate finance
    • Econometric theory
    • Mathematical economics
    • Financial instruments.

    You will also choose two elective modules from the following list:

    • History of economic thought
    • Issues of economic policy
    • Behavioural economics
    • International labour markets.
  • Year Four

    Compulsory modules:

    • Investments
    • Financial econometrics
    • Financial economics
    • Financial risk management
    • Final year project.

    You will also choose two elective modules from the following list:

    • Game theory
    • International political economy
    • Advanced macroeconomics
    • The Chinese economy
    • International trade
    • Monetary economics.

The BSc Economics and Finance programme is designed to fast-track you to a career in the financial sector where job opportunities usually require strong data analysis abilities and an analytical approach to solving economic problems.

Graduates from this programme will also find that their strong econometric skills and understanding of regulatory policies provide opportunities in the professional services industry, at companies such as 'The Big Four' accounting and consulting firms: KPMG, Deloitte, PwC, and Ernst & Young.
