About American and English Studies with International Study, BA - at University of Nottingham

American and Canadian Studies covers the history, literature, politics, film and culture of these countries, and their influence on Britain, the rest of Europe and the Americas. Students follow a programme which allows them to focus on or combine subjects such as English, History, Politics, Sociology, Media/Communications Studies or Film.

The Institute of Film and Television Studies is part of the school but draws staff from a number of other schools within the university. It encourages research in issues within the study of film, including production, marketing, distribution, audience studies, political economy, theory and textual analysis.

In the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise the School of American Studies was awarded the top grade of 5*.
