About Public Relations and Communications, BA (Hons) - at University of Greenwich

London is a global hub for the PR and communications industry. We have strong connections with international PR experts, and our teaching staff will provide you with a valuable link to these professional networks. Based in Greenwich, London we will teach you how PR fits within organisational strategy and marketing.  

This degree is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR). Successful graduates will be eligible for the CIPR Advanced Certificate in Public Relations, helping to improve your career earning potential.

You will gain an understanding of PR principles and professional skills in writing, presenting, networking, digital communications and media relations. You will learn how to analyse target audiences and implement effective PR and communications campaigns.

Our specialised courses will help you to develop a range of communication skills, and there is a strong emphasis on social media and media relations. You will also be encouraged to reflect on professionalism and ethics.

Links to industry

You will have opportunities to explore specialist sectors, such as corporate, consumer or charity PR. PR industry experts from companies such as Marks & Spencer, leading PR consultancies, the Media Trust and the police, deliver guest lectures to keep you up to date on the latest trends.

In addition, there are field trips to high profile, London-based organisations from the heart of government to Tottenham Hotspur FC.

Employability

In the third year, you will have the option to undertake a work placement to build your core skills, which employers seek in graduates. Previous students have secured placements at the Walt Disney Company, Ford and Sony.

Youwill connect with employers through our dedicated Business SchoolEmployability Team who focus on developing your employmentskills. They also provide you with CV support and will inviteyou to employment fairs to network with employers and recruiters fromindustries. The team was shortlisted for the Times HigherEducation Leadership and Management Awards.

We are actively improving job prospects for graduatesthrough the support we provide. According to survey findings, 93 per centof 2014/15 Greenwich graduates looking for work were already in jobs or furtherstudy by January 2016.

Experience abroad 

You can participate in the Erasmus+international exchange programme. This will help improve your languageskills and give you experience of living and working in another country. TheErasmus+ Scheme provides a grant towards the cost of studying abroad for ayear. 

Extracurricular activities

Our Greenwich EmployabilityPassport scheme recognises and rewards your participation in additionalactivities such as part-time work, volunteering, student societies or industryguest lectures.

We will encourage you to join student societies such as the PR Fraternity, which organises events and networking opportunities. They invite a range of high-profile speakers such as Nicky Campbell, BBC presenter, to offer career advice and talk about communications in various industries.

Business start-up

You will be encouraged to enter the university's Enterprise Challengewhich rewards student entrepreneurship and innovation. Previouswinners received a prize of £5,000 for their idea of developing an enterpriseand study hub.

We are proud that our marketing suite of subjects were ranked third in the UK for student satisfaction and second in London overall in the Complete University Guide 2016 league table. 

One of our students won a prize for the best BA PR dissertation in Europe. This was awarded by the European Public Relations Education and Research Association (EUPRERA).
