About Media and Communications, BA (Hons) - at University of Greenwich

Learn to research, analyse and craft communications in a variety of media. Students on the BA Hons Media and Communications combine media research and analysis with creative projects and professional skills.

The programme introduces students to academic, creative and critical approaches to media in the digital age. Through coursework and independent projects, students engage in critical reflection while producing material across a range of media - from text and images to video and sound.

After graduation, our alumni go on to work in a variety of roles within the media and creative industries. The two main career paths are:

  • Professional communications, for example in-house communications roles, at agencies, roles relating to content management, PR and marketing, or social media.
  • Media production, for example at independent production houses, content agencies, and creative agencies.

The aims of the programme are:

  • Intellectual: To equip students with the knowledge and intellectual skills to critically evaluate and participate in the contemporary media environment
  • Practical: To provide a creative space for both individual and collaborative production across forms of media
  • Professional: To equip students with key transferable skills that can be carried over into the workplace.

  • Professional Communications
  • One option from: Creative Problem Solving, Creative Coding, Screen Now, Craft and Technology, European Language (French, Spanish, Italian).
Year 2
  • Datascapes
  • Communications Research
  • Media Context
  • Open option from : Creative Interactions, Documentary Practice, International Cinemas, Writing for the Screen, Writing Journalism for the Digital Age, Creative Industries Placement.
Year 3
  • Working in Creative Industries
  • A choice of either Advanced Project or Dissertation (both 60 credits)
  • One option from: Digital Journalism in Practice, Mediated Environments, Film/Memory, Screen/Writing, Creative Industries Placement.
