About Tourism, MPhil - at University of Exeter Business School

The Centre for Tourism Studies is home to a vibrant group of doctoral researchers. Many of our students use our masters programmes, especially the MSc in Tourism, Development and Policy and the MRes in Tourism Studies, as a springboard to further doctoral studies.

Current topics of our doctoral students include:

Strategy and organisation studies in tourism
  • Foreign direct investment in the Chinese tourism industry

  • The effects of new product development and consumption patterns on tourism producers in Cyprus

  • Supply chain management and logistics in the hospitality industry in south west England

  • Emergent trends in the MICE sector in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states


Visitor behaviour and visitor management
  • Service quality management in the medical tourism sector in Jordan

  • Disability, access and visitor attractions in the UK

  • Cultural heritage tourism among young people visiting Greece

  • Authenticity in the production and consumption of heritage festivals in Korea


Sustainable tourism management
  • The ecological footprint of resource based tourism in Thailand

  • Leadership, innovation and entrepeneurship networks in the management of the environmental impacts of tourism

  • Responsible tourism among backpacker tourists in south east Asia


After completion, many of our students have gone on to hold university lectureships and fellowships in Britain and overseas. Others have taken posts in local, regional and national government.
