About Environmental Sciences (Part time), MSc - at University of East Anglia (UEA)

Study

Environmental Sciences is the interdisciplinary study of atmospheric, oceanic, freshwater and terrestrial environments, coupled with an understanding of the interactions with human society. A major study area is the science of climate change, exploring the links between environmental processes and problems and how to find solutions, making this a particularly challenging and rewarding area of study.

Structure

Our flexible course structure suits both students seeking to gain additional training in Environmental Sciences, and non-Environmental Science graduates from related areas seeking to widen their knowledge and skills. Students choose from several areas of expertise and integrate their knowledge with practical methods of environmental impact assessment and management. The ability to collect, analyse, interpret and present (often diverse) datasets and use analytical tools (such as numerical models and Geographic Information Systems) provides students with a number of technical and presentational skills that are highly valuable in the job market.

Teaching

The School of Environmental Sciences boasts leading researchers in the field of environment and sustainability; it's the largest interdisciplinary Environmental Science department in the UK. You have the opportunity to learn from scientists actively involved in furthering knowledge in this field, drawing on expertise in conservation, economics, human geography and political science. The School has 88% of its research is classified as world-leading or internationally excellent in the Research Excellence Framework. Extensive investment in UEA's buildings and laboratories provide excellent facilities for continued research.

Employability

The MSc in Environmental Sciences will offers a range of subjects to choose from with useful transferable skills opening up a wide array of career options, both in Postgraduate Research and vocational employment. Environmental management decisions are often complex, involving an assessment of risk associated with different options; so students will learn to participate professionally in such decision-making via this degree, which is invaluable for their future career.

Entry requirements

Open to students with a good first degree (min 2.1 or equivalent) in Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences or related disciplines. Also suitable for graduates with single-discipline degrees in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Mathematics, Computing, Engineering, Economics and Politics.
