Study

The MA course offers intensive immersion in the study of writing prose fiction, with the principal aim of helping you develop a deeper understanding of the craft and context of producing serious fiction. This Master's in Creative Writing Prose Fiction at UEA is the longest-running in the UK, enjoying unparalleled success in terms of the publications and prizes achieved by its alumni.

Structure

Students take core creative modules, but can also choose from a wide range of critical courses available to all Masters students in the School of Literature, Drama and Creative Writing. MA students are also required to attend the Research Methodology series of lectures.

Teaching

Students can attend follow-up tutorials with their class tutor each time their work is discussed in a workshop, plus each student is assigned a supervisor for support throughout their dissertation. The greatest asset of this MA is the cohesiveness and calibre of the talented students who join the course. UEA also maintain close links with their creative writing alumni, who regularly visit UEA to give lectures, seminars and masterclasses.

Employability

Graduates will be more adept and self-aware in their own practice, benefitting from UEA's excellent links with agents and publishers. The annual anthology of student writing is also distributed widely, and following graduation you have the opportunity to be paired with a literary agent for a four month mentoring period, including feedback on writing and future guidance.

Entry requirements

Open to applicants with a good Honours degree - UK BA (Hons) 2:1 or equivalent. Admission is via submission of a portfolio of prose writing for assessment, and an interview (Skype option available for overseas applicants). Please visit UEA's website for complete details.
