About Community Youth Work, MSc, PG Dip - at Ulster University

The dissertation is the culmination of the MSc in Community Youth Work. It is a sustained piece of independent research focussing on the participants’ practice and understanding in her/his particular circumstance and context. The research approach, promoted throughout the postgraduate programme, has endeavoured to improve participants’ ability to become stronger critically reflective practitioners. To that end it has sought to improve the quality of their personal and professional understandings and the excellence of their practice so that they can increase their impact in and on their organisation including career development. This study will allow the students an opportunity to both research new areas within their existing contexts and afford those newly qualified postgraduate diploma level students an opportunity to explore areas of interest. The dissertation will have an additional taught component consisting of research methodology, design techniques and ethical considerations necessary to complete a rigorous piece of independent research.

Students will have up to 12 months or 2 semesters to complete the dissertation after gaining the PGD and may return within 5 years from completion.
