Over recent years the demand for qualified accounting and finance professionals has grown and at Nottingham Business School we recognise that demand, creating graduates with not only a degree but also accreditation towards three accountancy bodies ACCA, CIMA and ICAEW.
Accounting and Finance is an integral function within the global business environment. The course will provide you with a firm financial grounding for a career in accountancy, finance or general management. It looks at the theories and practices of accounting and finance, as well as their context in a business setting and significance within contemporary society.
As an Accounting and Finance student you'll have access to our unique Trading Room facility. With 12 double-screen workstations the room gives you a simulated experience of working in the fast-moving world of shares trading. You can access sophisticated analysis tools and data on worldwide financial markets.
The course enables you to make sense of a range of important real-world issues affecting our everyday lives and improve your decision making skills in ways that are distinctive to the disciplines of economics.
During your second year you have a variety of unique opportunities to get involved in such as studying abroad, enterprise project, community project, internship or simply continue with your studies. The course can be studied over three years full-time or four years with a placement.

This degree provides you with a superior level of accreditation towards professional examinations with the major UK accounting bodies.
The majority of exemptions are based upon core modules but, dependent on options taken, students graduating from BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance may be able to achieve the following:
- 9 out of 9 possible papers from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
- 7 out of 8 possible papers from the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAEW)
- 9 out of 11 possible papers from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)
The course is also able to offer exemptions towards both The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) and the Association of International Accountants (AIA).
Many have also used their degree as the basis for very successful postgraduate study. Past graduates from this course have progressed to our master's degrees in Accounting and Finance, Marketing, Economics and Finance.
The CFA Society of the UK (CFA UK)
The CFA Society of the UK recognises the significant alignment between the Investment Management Certificate (IMC) and the BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance course at Nottingham Trent University. The IMC is the benchmark qualification for the investment profession.

As an integral part of your learning experience you can use industry technology, create stock portfolios, monitor their performance and use near-live reporting to make quick-fire, informed decisions.

Book and library resources
In our library you will have access to an extensive and diverse range of books and periodicals that focus on specialist areas within business, Marketing, Finance, Economics and HRM. The library's OneSearch system provides access to all our:

We have a liaison librarian who is available to give you detailed help in finding and using print and electronic resources. They can also help you with things such as Harvard referencing and research skills.
The location of the City site also means that you have easy access to:

How you're taught
On average you will receive minimum 12 - 15 hours of teaching per week from a combination of lectures and seminars. You'll then be expected to increase your understanding of the subject area through independent study for each module.
We use a mixture of teaching methods including traditional lectures and seminars, IT workshops, guest lectures, problem-based learning and group discussions. In addition to this you will also be involved in a variety of practical work such as individual and group presentations, student-led seminars, role play, industry-sponsored competitions and project work.
These are included to help you develop a range of practical skills such as time management, effective presentation, communication, customer focus, analytical, entrepreneurial and team working. All students will attend lectures and seminars at NTU's City site, in the impressive Newton Building, home to Nottingham Business School.
You will also have a number of one-on-one tutor sessions during each year, which will allow you to:
- Discuss your personal and professional development.
- Discuss and gain feedback about your work.
- Ask questions about the projects you're working on.
- Raise any difficulties you are experiencing relating to your work, personal circumstances or your University experience.
You'll also use our virtual learning environment, NOW, which is a flexible web-based system that gives you 24-hour access to module learning materials and reading lists. It allows you to discuss work with tutors and submit coursework electronically from anywhere in the world.
Through our personalised approach to learning we will provide you with a uniquely individualised experience to help you be the best you can be. We will help you to understand and reflect on your own experiences, to explore your aspirations and to create your own development plan.
