MSc Public Health
This programme covers the whole breadth of public health, encompassing high-, middle- and low-income countries. You will be able to follow a general public health course or concentrate on one of five more specific streams. The decision of which stream to follow will depend on your needs and can be discussed with the programme directors.
Compulsory modules for all students:
- Basic Statistics for Public Health & Policy
- Basic Epidemiology
- Introduction to Health Economics
- Principles of Social Research
You will also take two further modules during Term 1 from a selected list. Depending on your choice of stream, one of these may be compulsory. During Terms 2 and 3, in addition to stream-specific modules, you will be able to choose modules from a wide selection covering all aspects of public health.
Public Health stream
Provides you with the knowledge and skills necessary to improve the health of populations, communities and particular groups within them. The focus is mainly on high- and middle-income countries. Modules for this stream include Issues in Public Health and Principles and Practice of Public Health.
Typical careers: healthcare, health policy and public health organisations at local, national and international level in service and academic public health roles.
Duration: one year full-time or two years part-time. Students can choose to attend part-time throughout both years or by split-study.
