The Faculty of Science and Engineering is one of the largest research-led science and technology educators in the UK.
We offer a wide range of programmes across multiple subject areas, including engineering, computing, cyber security, AI, biomedical science, sport and exercise science and more. As a University, we are ranked 5th in the UK for Sports Sciences subjects, and 23rd in the UK for Earth and Marine Sciences (Guardian University League Tables 2020 (by subject area)).
We work closely with organisations locally, nationally and internationally to equip you with skills relevant to industry, and help you prepare for your career after graduation. This includes working on live projects – set by those working in industry, these live projects give you the chance to work on something you may come across in the real working world.
Many of our programmes feature optional placement years. This is an opportunity to develop your core skills and learn about how a business really operates. It also shows employers that you are ready to get to work after graduation.
We are a research-rich faculty, with specialisms in musculoskeletal science, microbiology, 3D printing, vascular science, conservation biology and zoology, cyber security and big data. We are leading the way in Industry 4.0 education and innovation, bringing this new and exciting age of technology to life in our teaching.
Our academic staff recognise that everyone learns in different ways. To make sure you can make the most of your studies, we use a variety of teaching methods, including formal lectures, practical sessions, presentations and group activity.
As a student in the Faculty of Science and Engineering, you will also have access to regular online video support. Created by staff, for students, these short videos are posted online to support your learning. They cover a range of topics, from core concepts that you may need to understand in order to progress through a module, to exam paper guidance and model exam answers.
