The Faculty of Business and Law offers a wide variety of undergraduate, postgraduate and research degree courses, designed with your employability and the needs of modern business in mind.
Many of the courses provide placement and internship opportunities in the UK and abroad. These enable you to gain invaluable industry experience whilst you study. In addition to placements and internships, the Faculty has the Rise scheme, where you can take part in a wide range of experiences to help you learn more skills, earn extra credits towards your degree and prepare for your future career.
The faculty is home two schools: the Business School, and Manchester Law School.
Manchester Met’s Business School is triple accredited, placing it among the very best business schools in the world. These accreditations are testament to the University’s high standards of excellence in teaching and research, as well as its commitment to providing an excellent learning experience to all students.
The Business School features six departments:
- Department of Accounting, Finance and Banking
- Department of Strategy, Enterprise and Sustainability
- Department of Economics, Policy and International Business
- Department of Marketing, Retail and Tourism
- Department of Operations, Technology, Events and Hospitality Management
- Department of People and Performance
Each department is led by a team of academic staff who are experts in their fields.
Facilities at the Business School
The Business School at Manchester Met is bright, modern and conveniently located in the centre of the city. Teaching takes place in its lecture theatres and seminar rooms, and there are plenty of study spaces which support both individual study and group projects. Students will be able to work in state-of-the-art computer labs and technology suites, which feature PCs, Macs and laptops. Postgraduate, MBA and PhD students will also benefit from exclusive use of the seventh floor, where they can study overlooking the Manchester skyline.
There are three University Centres for Research and Knowledge Exchange based at Manchester Met’s triple accredited Business School: Decent Work and Productivity, Future Economies and Business Transformations. Across these centres, research is centred around people and place, with notable strengths in Equalities and Human Rights, Place Management, Sports Law and the Political Economy.
We have strong working links with a wide range of organisations, both in Manchester and around the world. Students from the Faculty of Business and Law have previously been employed by, or offered placements with, a number of global businesses including PwC, Walt Disney, Pfizer, The Rugby League World Cup and L’Oreal. Manchester Law School has delivered pioneering legal education and research for more than 50 years. Based in central Manchester, the School offers outstanding opportunities to students.
Facilities at Manchester Law School
Manchester Law School offers you a professional and supportive environment, featuring excellent facilities, including multimedia lecture theatres, study areas and dedicated IT zones. An exciting new development in the Law School is the new moot court. The courtroom features video playback technology to help you develop confidence and practice legal skills in a realistic legal environment. Students on the LPC (Legal Practice Course) and BTC (Bar Training Course) programmes will also benefit from exclusive use of certain facilities, including legal libraries and private study areas.
When you study at Manchester Law School, you will benefit from its links to leading law firms, chambers and the wider professional sectors – including Eversheds, DWF, Deloitte, Browne Jacobson, Addleshaw Goddard, and chambers across the Northern Circuit. The School’s connections provide our students with mentoring and placement opportunities, as well as guest lectures and opportunities to take part in mooting competitions.
As a student at Manchester Law School, you will have the opportunity to join our Pro Bono Network and volunteer your time and your legal skills to help someone who cannot afford their own legal aid. Joining the network will give you the chance to explore different areas of law in practice, whilst enhancing your employability and making a real difference to someone in the local community.
The School has demonstrated excellence in key research areas which include Equalities and Human Rights, Honour-Based Violence and Sports Law. Its research has real world impact, and some of the School’s researchers have advised international governments on issues such as transgender discrimination, domestic violence, surrogacy and ticket touting.
Manchester Law School Law Society
Law students at Manchester Met can join the Manchester Law School Law Society, which inspires and supports members who aspire to work in the legal profession by providing students with opportunities to network and improve their skills and employability. The Society also organises guest speaker events, exclusive workshops and various clinics that will boost your employability and increase your awareness of career opportunities.
