About Mission (Mission & Evangelism), MA, PG Dip - at Cliff College

The programme in Mission and Evangelism is for people who want to think seriously and deeply about the practice of mission and evangelism in our contemporary culture through biblical, historical and theological studies. It is designed for lay or ordained persons, from all traditions, who are interested in the ministry of Christian evangelism and the missionary shape of the Church.

The aim of the course is to equip persons for the intellectual and practical challenges of mission and evangelism facing the Church today through the discipline of postgraduate level study and personal research. There are four main units of study (two for PGCert) which cover a range of themes.

MA and Diploma students on this programme must take units 1 and 2. They can choose their other units from the rest of this programme and across the syllabus.

  • Unit 1: Best Practices in Mission and Evangelism – practices of evangelistic ministry; practices of church growth; managing mission and world perspectives on mission.
  • Unit 2: Evangelism, Conversion and the Kingdom – main themes include the theology of conversion; the theology of evangelism; communicating the gospel and Christian apologetics in a postmodern context, discipline of missiology, the history of mission and evangelism and contemporary missionary movements.

Each unit is assessed by a 6,000-7,000 word assignment.

This programme can be undertaken either full time or part time at a number of different levels:

  • Postgraduate Certificate in Mission (Evangelism): a one-year part-time course incorporating two units of study
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Mission (Evangelism): a one-year full-time or two-year part-time course incorporating EITHER four units of study or THREE units plus a diploma level dissertation of 6,000 words
  • MA in Mission (Evangelism): a one-year full-time or a two-year part-time course incorporating four units and a Masters level dissertation of 12–15,000 words.
