Why study LLB (Hons) Law at BNU?
Get workplace ready
Studying an LLB (Hons) Law degree at BNU's Business and Law School is an exciting opportunity that provides you with a knowledge of the law, develops high-level transferable and applied skillsets in legal practice, advocacy and research. BNU is a student focused and employer led university, with you at the forefront of all that we do. Whether you want to be a legal practitioner, work on regulation and contracts, helping transform governance by designing policies and advocating or making an impact through politics as a champion of social change, we can help enhance your employability.
Having a degree that meets the requirements of the Solicitors Regulatory Authority, the academic stage requirements for the new, centralised external Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE) and Bar council, will provide the perfect opportunity to kickstart your legal career.
Work Placement Opportunities
We have a regular placement opportunity with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) which is open to all Law students, offering real world experience of what your working life after university might look like. This workplace experience allows you to put your studies into action and can help you stand out to employers on graduation. Additionally, short term work experience is occasionally available with local law firms.
Realistic training facilities
The Law School has a dedicated moot room where you can practice your advocacy skills in a courtroom setting. We have gowns and wigs to create an authentic experience.
As well as the support from our lecturers, our Students’ Union has a Mooting Society, giving you the perfect opportunity to get involved in mock trials and pursue your passion for law outside of your timetable. It allows you to meet with likeminded students and practise court proceedings and arguing your case. You may even have the opportunity to participate in varsity and national mooting competitions.
Industry insight
Our law course has been specifically designed with an international and contemporary perspective. It is designed to focus on contemporary issues in law with an innovative teaching approach that underscores employability and professional skills and practice.
Not all learning is done inside of a lecture theatre. There are plenty of chances to visit magistrates’ courts to participate in bail applications, visit Parliament and law courts to experience first-hand how they operate on a day-to-day basis. You can also meet guest speakers from across the legal industry, including judges, magistrates and law firms and learn more about how you can apply your knowledge in the workplace.
Expert tutors
Our staff cover a range of specialist topics. Course Leader Sukhninder Panesar is a leading expert in the field of Property, Trusts and Commercial law. Other expertise in the school include International Law, European Union Law, Criminal Law, International Commercial Law and Dispute Resolution.
