Programme Structure
Students will undertake specialized coursework, gain hands-on experience in designing and conducting studies, complete qualifying exams—including comprehensive exams and a research proposal presentation—and defend a doctoral dissertation consisting of two or more publishable manuscripts. Our goal is to enable trainees to define significant research questions, design and conduct impactful studies, and publish findings that contribute to meaningful clinical and public health outcomes both nationally and globally.
The programme also incorporates research on environmental risk factors, including climate change-related elements, which are of increasing concern but remain underexplored in relation to cardiometabolic and other diseases. Students will collaborate with faculty to ensure a suitable primary thesis advisor and committee aligned with their research topics.
Coursework
The doctoral programme is an intensive, coursework-based resident programme requiring the successful completion of a minimum of 36 credits, including University-mandated and programme-specific courses. The coursework structure ensures comprehensive training in epidemiological methods, research ethics, data analysis, and public health policy, equipping students with the necessary skills to excel in their research and careers.
