About Diploma of Ministry (Leadership) - RPL, UG:Diploma - at Alphacrucis College

Perth: 14-18 November 2016

Alphacrucis College is excited to offer ACC ministers the opportunity to obtain an accredited Diploma of Ministry by participating in a 5 day RPL mode. This RPL mode draws upon your many years of ministry experience and provides quality gap training.

This popular training initiative is endorsed by the ACC National President, Pastor Wayne Alcorn, and is specifically design for experienced ministers and leaders.

What is RPL?

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment process through which the skills, knowledge and experience that you already have may count towards the achievement of a nationally recognised qualification. Sometimes also referred to as 'skills recognition', RPL involves a formal assessment process, focusing on your ability to demonstrate that you have the required level of skills, knowledge and experience to meet the requirements for competency in the unit/s within the qualification.

You will join a supportive cohort of ministers to share best practice and learn from one another. You will also receive teaching and input from the best trainers and some of the great leaders in our movement. The Sydney class will be held at AC Central (Parramatta Campus), and the Perth class will be held at the WA ACC Hub in Victoria Park - both venues are amidst vibrant cafes and shops.

There are three simple steps for enrolling:

Step 1 - Application

Complete the RPL Pre-Application Form, providing as much information of your previous experience in ministry as you can.

Click here to complete the online RPL Application Form.

Applications close Monday 24 October 2016.

Step 2 - Gather the Evidence

Once it has been determined you have enough skills to progress in this process, you will be requested to complete the RPL Evidence Checklist. An assessor will review the information you have provided. Be sure to provide as much detail as possible. As assessor may contact you to discuss any items of evidence provided. You may also provide additional information to help support your checklist.

Step 3 - One Week Intensive

If the appropriate evidence has been submitted, you will be invited to attend a one-week intensive to finalise the RPL process. During this week you will hear from leading practitioners in Biblical interpretation, Theology and Ethics, Leadership, and cross-cultural ministry. The final pieces of evidence will be collect during this week.

AC will provide lunch, morning and afternoon tea for the five-day duration, commencing with a orientation dinner on Monday night.

I am looking forward to seeing you.

CEO

What do previous students have to say?

The DipMin RPL intensive added some structure and missing content to my existing years of experience as a pastor. It has become a solid building block in the growth of both my ministry and church.
Ps David Vicary, Eternity Church, WA

The group times, I loved batting though the materials and
gleaning further insight / revelations from the others, really helpful.
Ps Karen MacLeod, South West Christian Church, Hoppers Crossing, VIC

From application to graduation we had a 5-star experience.
The course was most enjoyable and life building.
Ps Mark Senanayake, Carousel Church, Queens Park, WA

The Diploma of Ministry (Leadership) RPL acknowledged and enhanced the ministry and leadership skills I had been developing for years as a senior pastor. With wonderful support from the AC lecturers during the intensive, by the end of the week I walked away not only with the qualification, but feeling refreshed and encouraged for my ministry.
Ps Chris Smith, ACC NSW State Secretary/Treasurer

The purpose of this course is to develop ministers. This course sets out the essential skills to minister, in particular within a Christian context. These include:

  • Ethical decisions
  • Biblical knowledge and interpretation
  • Theological knowledge and interpretation
  • Pastoral ministry skills

Churches today are larger and more complex in nature. It is important that ministers develop higher level skills in all they do. Ministry can take place within a variety of contexts; this includes Administration, Chaplaincy, Children's Ministry, Church Planting, Community Work, Creative Ministry, Leadership, Cross Cultural Ministry, Women's Ministry and Youth Ministry.

Upon completion of this qualification, learners will have acquired the necessary knowledge, attitudes and skills to minister effectively in a variety of settings. Potential vocational outcomes for graduates of this Course will depend on the participants' pre-existing qualifications and experience, as well as their chosen electives.

This course is intended to provide participants with the following general education outcomes:

  • Ability to apply ethical decision making principles
  • Ability to communicate a broad knowledge of an Old Testament book and New Testament book
  • Ability to identify and apply a Christian worldview and values
  • Demonstration of general leadership skills in a ministry context
  • Ability to apply knowledge of pastoral ministry to a broad range of contexts, and depth in the area of specialisation
  • Demonstration of general research skills, particularly the ability to gather, understand, evaluate and analyse information

If you are doing these roles in your job then don't write off your skills - consider getting them recognised."

TIPS AND HINTS TO HELP YOU PREPARE FOR RECOGNITION

To have skills formally recognised in the national system assessors must make sure you have the skills and knowledge to meet the industry standard. This means you must be involved in a careful and comprehensive process that covers the content of all unit/s or qualification/s you can be recognised for.

Assessment happens in a variety of ways. Being prepared can save you valuable time and hassle and make the recognition process stress-free for you.

Here are some tips and hints for you:

  • Be prepared to talk about your job roles and your work history. Submit a resume with as much detail about where you have worked either paid or unpaid and what you did there.
  • Include your position description and any performance appraisals you have from any churches you have worked in.
  • Consider the possibilities for workplace contact. Are you in a workplace that is supporting your goal to get qualified? Would you feel comfortable to have the assessor contact your workplace or previous workplaces so your skills can be validated?
  • Think about who can confirm your skill level. Think about current or recent supervisors who have seen you work in the past 18 months and will be able to confirm your skills. The assessor will need to contact them. You may also have community contacts or even clients themselves who can vouch for your skill level.
  • Collect any certificates from in-house training or formal training you have done in the past.
