UChicago Summer Session offers Intensive summer programs for undergraduates and recent graduates from around the world who want to challenge themselves as they move to the next stage in their academic and professional careers. We seek a diverse student body interested in turning ideas into meaningful action through collaboration and rigorous analytical thinking, and exploring emerging academic disciplines.
In response to the impacts of the COVID-19 outbreak, Summer Session at the University of Chicago is transitioning to a remote teaching format for Summer 2020, so that undergraduate and post baccalaureate students from anywhere in the world can join us at the forefront of modern quantitative finance, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Our programs now offer maximum flexibility for participants through a combination of synchronous (real-time) and asynchronous engagement. All programs will continue to be offered for credit, as well as feature career development information, graduate admissions advice, and corporate guest speaker presentations.
The University of Chicago is an urban research university that has driven new ways of thinking since 1890. Our commitment to free and open inquiry draws inspired scholars to our classes, where ideas are born that challenge and change the world. We empower individuals to challenge conventional thinking in pursuit of original ideas and to tackle the big questions. Students learn to think critically and act boldly, and move toward becoming the next generation of leaders in academia, industry, nonprofits, and government.
Through our intensive summer programs, undergraduates and recent graduates can experience for themselves what makes our intellectual culture so distinctive. For those considering graduate study, a summer intensive provides an opportunity to learn whether UChicago is the right next step for you. You’ll learn from top faculty and alongside other students from around the world, all here to do more, be more than they ever thought possible.
The Summer Business Scholars Program(July 7- August 4, 2020), now in its 13th year, brings students considering a career in business together for a five-week deep dive into Innovation and Entrepreneurship with outstanding faculty from the Polsky Center, part of the Chicago Booth School of Business, one of the top business schools in the world. SBSP encourages students from any academic discipline to participate, not just those with business backgrounds. SBSP’s experiential curriculum provides a solid foundation for those interested in addressing the biggest issues of our time – be they local or global, social or environmental. By the end of the course, students will have an even more realistic experience of what it is like to work on cross-national and global teams in an online environment as they pitch their new venture ideas to our panel of business professionals drawn from Chicago Booth School of Business affiliates and alumni.
The new Summer Financial Math Program (June 15 – July 31, 2020) invites students from any major who have strong quantitative skills to learn more about emerging careers in modern finance, which is more interdisciplinary than ever before. Financial markets have become increasingly complex, requiring specialized skills to effectively predict opportunities for profit and manage risk. These skills bring together mathematics, statistics, economics, finance, and computer science in ever-changing ways. Global demand has grown steadily for people who can understand, enhance, and develop new complex mathematical models, and individuals can choose from a variety of career paths in the industry, based on their skills and interests. Applications for these programs are now open; the application deadline is April 29, 2020. Applications will then be accepted on a rolling basis into mid-May. Financial aid is available.
