The XJTLU Summer School offers three- and six-week language courses.
The summer course is available at various language levels and different start dates.
What will you learn?
The course is intended for students who have some previous knowledge of the Spanish language. Teaching takes place in small classes grouped according to level. All four language skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) will be taught with a focus on useable, everyday language that you might expect to use if you are visiting, living, working or travelling abroad. You will learn more complex grammar and verb forms that will enable you to talk about topics requiring the use of the past and future tenses. By the end of the course, you will be able to demonstrate a reasonable knowledge and understanding of the main Spanish linguistic principles, structures and registers at a full A2 level. You will also be able to write short and basic descriptions of events, past activities and personal experiences and understand everyday spoken Spanish.
How will you learn?
Our experienced teachers do not believe in a 'chalk and talk' style of language teaching but instead promote a communicative style of teaching and learning. We put the student at the centre of the lessons and encourage student talk and practice. You will be engaged and active in every single lesson and will learn through doing. Lessons aim to give you language knowledge and skills that can be used immediately outside the classroom. Classes take place Monday to Friday, over 20 hours per week.
Spanish cultural activities
A key part of your Spanish Language Summer School will be the Spanish cultural activities. These provide the opportunity to practice your new language, learn more about Spain and have lots of fun too.
Where will you learn?
Suzhou is known in China as 'Heaven on Earth' and is a mix of modern and traditional. There are two parts of the city - the downtown area with its ancient architecture and World Heritage gardens, and the Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) area, where XJTLU is located, a modern district with Singaporean influences.
