Course Overview
Academic studies will consider the links with events, leisure and tourism while developing a detailed understanding of issues within the event management sector. Learning will be underpinned by core skills development focusing on management and leadership skills, events planning and organisation as well as hospitality and cutting-edge guest service skills which are all central to the Event Management industry.
Throughout the course students will focus on developing their employability skills and industry knowledge with exciting field study trips within the UK and overseas, event based internships and placements as well as a range of supporting lectures, tutorials, industry presentations and event-focused activities.

This exciting programme is designed to develop the students' employability skills in preparation for a career in the event management industry. Innovative learning strategies will be utilised in order to create distinctive locally and internationally focused graduates with the attributes the industry requires.
Opportunities are constantly reviewed and updated but current local links include Iron Man Wales, Mumbles Oyster and Seafood Festival, Pembrokeshire Fish Week, Swansea Council Events Team, Swansea Waterfront Museum, Wedding planners, Convention and Events organisers as well as events venues including Ffos Las Race Course and The Liberty Stadium. Global links include a range of cutting-edge hotels such as Little Nell Hotel in Aspen Colorado and Rancho Valencia in San Diego California.
Due to the nature of the events industry this programme allows students flexibility to undertake several placements with different events and venues to complete your internship. This enables you to gain a range of valuable experiences at different types of events and in different roles to improve employability skills and help you make those difficult career decisions.

Assessment
The programme will be assessed through a mix of assessments which will include assignments, essays, planning and organising events, management reports, debates, industry presentations, field study work, development records, exams, reviews, DVDs and blogs. Assessments are related to the specific modules and designed to develop the employability skills required by the industry. Furthermore, they will also aim to support the development of critical thinking, managing ICT, communication, numeracy, problem-solving, interacting in teams, critical appraisal, self-management and leadership.

This is an exciting vocational programme designed to develop distinctive and globally focused events management graduates. This provides students with the hospitality and leadership skills vital for this sector as well as the academic foundations.
The programme focuses directly on the current sustainability agenda which is highly relevant to events in terms of legacies and impacts. In previous years the London 2012 Olympics has been an integral focus of study throughout the course and this will remain in future years as academic staff continue to research the legacies of this event.
There will be a global and cultural emphasis to the programme. This will be linked to enabling students to develop their international empowerment and employability skills.
Throughout your studies you will be given work based learning opportunities to experience the industry with learning also brought alive through a range of field study trips and internships. Innovative strategies include the use of local and international organisations and a strong focus on the use of case studies and real life events scenarios. Professional lecturing staff have strong industry links which helps facilitate exciting opportunities for students to gain behind the scenes events experiences.

Additional Costs
Field trips will be available for students, which are optional. Costs for UK trips are no more than £100. For overseas trips costs will be no more than £450.
Students undertaking placements abroad will incur some travel costs. The amount will depend upon location and current state of the UK pound. For students undertaking placements in the USA additional visa costs will apply. For example students undertaking placements in Aspen, Colarado in 2017 will be expected to find £2000.
Students will be expected to pay four weeks prior to field trips taking place. Travel and visa costs for overseas placements, three months before departure.
