Course Overview

This course aims to produce graduates who will have a sound knowledge of business and computer concepts to allow them to develop IT and business strategies for an organisation. IT plays a pervasive role throughout Society and is an essential consideration for Organisations to realise their potential. Our graduates will be able to clearly understand and develop the use of human resources and contemporary information systems within an organisation.

The course looks at how the use of different IT applications can benefit Organisations and covers up-to-date developments in many areas such as e-Business, Web Technologies, E-Commerce, M-commerce, Social Media, Entrepreneurship and Human & Organisational behaviour. Students will learn how to use up-to-date technology to support business needs, how to solve complex problems, finance, marketing, enterprise and management skills.

The student will focus on acquiring and using the expertise required by a systems analyst to design solutions to business problems and manage the change of working practices of the people involved. The expertise and skills you develop from designing and managing software solutions as part of a team is highly regarded by employers.

Key Features

This BCS accredited degree scheme is designed to produce suitably equipped graduates to work in the Information Technology industry within the UK. The programme includes the traditional concepts, principles and techniques of modern business and information technology but applies these within the context of the cutting edge technologies used in industry and commerce. Through our industrial links we have developed a program structure to provide students with the latest skills along with an appreciation of the industry needs. This course contributes fully to the academic requirements for graduates to register for the status of Chartered IT Professional (CITP).

Applicants to this programme will learn more specialised, systems analysis, people management and data management skills. They would learn in-depth, a range of project management concepts and data visualisation to develop and maintain sophisticated and complex information systems solutions. Graduates would seek positions in business management, project management, ICT teaching, web design and development, systems analysis, and consultancy.

Assessment

The School of Applied Computing aims to produce graduates that help shape the future of computing and information systems development. The course content is contemporary and shaped for employability through close links with local and national employers.

Students are assessed through a combination of worksheets, practicals, presentations, projects and examinations. Module assessment is often by assignment, or assignment and examination. The final mark for some modules may include one or more pieces of course work set and completed during the module. Project work is assessed by written report and presentation.

Students are encouraged to use our links with Software Alliance Wales and Go Wales to work on commercial schemes for their Major Project module. Go Wales provides the opportunity of paid work placements with local businesses.

Our graduates have excellent employment prospects in the computing, teaching, lecturing and ICT industry, as well as in other areas of the economy. Recent statistics show that the vast majority of graduates from the Computing portfolio are following their chosen career paths within six months of graduating.

MComp Business Information Technology - UCAS CODE: 7T83

120 UCAS tariff points (previously 300) to include two C grades at A-Level/AVCE; or
BTEC National Diploma grades Merit, Pass, Pass; or
BTEC National Certificate grades Merit, Merit; or
NVQ Level 3 - Pass

Subjects at Advanced Level should include Computing, ICT, Maths, Science or similar.
GCSE Maths Grade 4 (previously C) or above is preferred.

104 UCAS tariff points (previously 260) to include two C grades at A-Level/AVCE; or
