About Law (European and International), LLB - at University of Sheffield

This is a four-year course including a year of study abroad in a choice of over 75 world-class partner universities across the globe, providing you with an excellent opportunity to gain an insight into another legal system. It covers all the foundational subjects in the Common Law of England and Wales, but with an emphasis on the European and international legal contexts.

You'll study the principles of comparative law in the first year and international law in the second year. You'll then spend your third year studying law, in English, at one of our partner universities overseas. In your fourth year, you can tailor your degree by choosing from a range of optional modules such as International Human Rights Law, Competition Law and International Trade Law.

The Core Legal and Study Skills module includes an introduction to mooting, employability workshops and study skills sessions.

Practice of law

Our LLB degrees provide you with expert knowledge to enter the legal profession.

If you plan to be a solicitor, after graduation you'll need to complete the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) and undertake a two-year period of qualifying work experience. Thanks to a collaboration between the University of Sheffield and the University of Law, you can study a Solicitor Qualifying Exam (SQE) course at our Sheffield campus.

If you plan to be a barrister, our courses satisfy the seven 'foundations of legal knowledge' set by the Bar Standards Board . After graduation you'll need to complete a Bar training course and undergo a period of work-based training supervised by an experienced barrister, known as a pupillage.
