About Translation Studies at University of Nottingham

The MA in Translation Studies at the University of Nottingham is designed both for professional translators and interpreters wishing to obtain a formal qualification, for language graduates wishing to become translators or undertake further research studies. The course combines theoretical and practical training and makes use of our state-of-the-art translation and interpreting facilities.

The MA in Translation Studies mainly consists of core modules which provide professionally-relevant training, giving students the option to specialise in either Interpreting, Audiovisual Translation or Literary Translation between English and one of the following languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Portuguese, Russian, Slovene, Serbian/Croatian, Spanish (though it should be noted that not all three options are available for all languages). Supervision for the Targeted Translation Project is available in a wide range of areas offering research guidance and advice from specialist staff. The students will also have regular opportunities to meet with professional translators.

Applicants wishing to take Chinese language should apply for the MA Chinese / English Translation and Interpreting programme.

Entry requirements

Non-native speakers of English: if English is the intended target language, near-native proficiency is required (please see the IELTS or TOEFL as described below). Dual non-native speakers should demonstrate near-native proficiency in one language and be very proficient in the other. IELTS: 7.0 (with no less than 6.5 in any element) T
